Mexican seafood spot with celebrated chef finally opens in San Antonio

After years in the making, a San Antonio seafood restaurant with a celebrated chef at the helm is finally ready to greet customers as it softly opens on the city’s Northside.

Aguazul is now in its soft opening period, allowing people to dine in while the restaurant finds its footing. Chef Enrique Lozano, whose accolades include a James Beard nomination and winning a 2024 episode of Food Network’s Chopped, was tapped in 2025 to lead the kitchen, lending his years of experience to crafting a diverse menu of coastal Mexican cuisine and a whole lot more.

“One day you can come just for pizza, another day you can come just for sushi, for another day you can come just for seafood, like ceviches and aguachiles, and then another day for tacos. And then don’t forget about the burger,” Lozano told MySA during an in-person preview of the restaurant.

The chef wasn’t exaggerating when he mentioned the variety offered at Aguazul. The restaurant boasts an 18-page menu that was reminiscent of the binder given to customers ordering at The Cheesecake Factory. Unlike the mall-worthy chain, Aguazul focuses on Mexican cuisine and seafood-inspired dishes that include fresh ceviches, colorful aguachiles, fried coconut shrimp and fish tacos…
