Family sues King County over mother’s death in jail, claiming neglect during severe illness

SEATTLE — The family of a woman who died while in custody at the King County Correctional Facility has filed a lawsuit against the jail, blaming staff for the death of the 58-year-old mother of two.

Deanna Davis died in March 2023 in the jail’s psychiatric housing unit. According to the complaint, Davis was severely ill and vomiting for three days before her death. She died from acute dehydration and an electrolyte imbalance that caused cardiac failure.

Court records show Davis had been booked into the jail 29 times in the years leading up to her death and had an extensive history of mental health issues and drug use documented in her jail records…
