School bus driver’s unsafe turn caused fatal Oregon crash, police say

A school bus driver made an unsafe left turn Monday morning, causing a crash that killed another driver and injured a student near Salem, police said.

Salem Fire crews responded to a crash on Oregon 22 just before 10 a.m. near the intersection with Oregon 51. The area is a frequent site of fatal crashes.

Chandra Jean Milkovich-Howard was driving a school bus carrying about 30 Salem-Keizer high school students when she attempted to make a left-hand turn onto southbound Oregon 51, Oregon State Police said.
