Lower level of Augusta’s Riverwalk closed to repair playground after Hurricane Helene

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Augusta Recreation and Parks Department announced it’s temporarily closing of the lower level of the Edward McIntyre Riverwalk between 8th Street and the Augusta Marina starting Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

The temporary closure is being put in place to replace the playground unit that was significantly damaged due to Hurricane Helene. Work is expected to take four weeks, as weather permits.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the immediate work zone and surrounding area while crews are on site…
