Every Tuesday evening at Clearwater Main Library, the community gathers on the rooftop terrace to watch the sun set over Clearwater Harbor.
“Sunset on the Roof” brings together residents of all ages for live musical performances, food and drinks and waterfront views. Many attendees bring cameras to photograph the changing colors of the sky, while others simply enjoy the atmosphere with family and friends.
As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, Main Library Division Branch Manager and NASA Ambassador David Stoner sets up a telescope, offering patrons a chance to observe outer space. Past viewings have included stars and planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus; adding an educational element to the event.
“Sunset on the Roof” was created by Library Director Jen Obermaier and continues under the leadership of Library Program Specialist Julia Bodolay and Administrative Assistant Donna Groce. Organizers have their eyes on a goal of 200 attendees and say they are motivated by the excitement of participants and the opportunity to build community while showcasing one of Clearwater’s most scenic views.
“I love the sense that we all seem to be together, and enjoying a beautiful sunset, and such a wonderful library,” one patron said…
