GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Crews with the Parker District Fire Department responded to a fire near the Swamp Rabbit Trail early Wednesday morning.
Assistant Chief Todd Milam with the department said that crews were called to the area of Old Bleachery Road and Edwards Street around 3:30 a.m. in response to an outside fire. Upon arrival, crews upgraded the call to a commercial structure fire.
According to officials, the fire started in a vacant building without power and spread to surrounding bushes. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though it is being investigated as suspicious. Crews report that the fire is under control, and no one has been injured.
FOX Carolina learned that neighbors were asked to leave their homes for their safety. A guest staying at an Airbnb near the fire reported that embers from the fire landed in the backyard and began to burn.
Assistant Chief Milam said that crews will remain in the area on Wednesday and maybe Thursday to ensure the fire does not spread. Residents can expect to see hazy smoke in the area for the next several days, and they are asked not to call 911…
