Grand Rapids kindergartener survives cardiac arrest thanks to school staff

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It is American Heart Month and right now the American Heart Association is urging schools across Michigan to get their staff members prepared for any potential cardiac arrest emergency. Laura Jackson says her son Lameel is alive today because his school was prepared back in October.

“He went to school. Everything was normal. I got a call around 11 a.m. that he had collapsed at recess. He went into cardiac arrest. He was unresponsive,” Laura said.

“I kind of went blank. I went into shock. I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know how to respond. I remember sitting on the phone and just listening. I could hear them saying ‘Lameel! Lameel!'”…
