Chief addresses Grand Rapids Public Safety Committee after fatal officer-involved shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom addressed the Public Safety Committee for the final time Tuesday afternoon before he departs West Michigan for a new role in Florida.

Winstron had been with GRPD less than a month when then-Officer Christopher Schurr shot and killed Patrick Lyoya in 2022. Now, just days before Winstrom and his family leave for Pensacola, he’s leading his department through another officer-involved shooting that killed Da’quain Tre Johnson.
