MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A circuit judge has ruled in favor of former Citronelle Police Chief John Tyler “J.T.” Norris, reversing the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission’s decision to revoke his law enforcement certification following his 2023 federal conviction.
In an order filed February 23, 2026, Presiding Circuit Judge C. Robert Montgomery found that the Commission improperly relied on procedural and statutory grounds in stripping Norris’s credentials and violated his due process rights in doing so. The judge ordered Norris’s certification to be reinstated immediately, with credit for previously completed training and an opportunity to complete any remaining requirements within two years.
