Responding to ICE fears, MPD rolls out new vehicle and staff markings

The Madison Police Department has added placards to the windshields of more than 150 unmarked police vehicles this month.

Many unmarked police cars like SUVs and pickup trucks that are usually driven by detectives, commanders or community outreach officers are now adorned with these new identifying placards, which explain in English and Spanish that they belong to the MPD. MPD officers who wear plain clothes, like detectives, have also been instructed to wear an identifying patch on their clothing.
