New west Knoxville restaurants move in, classic dining spots gone

It seems to be part of the American cultural psyche, particularly since World War II, to remember nostalgically a fast-food restaurant you frequented as a child or even a teenager after school. Often the building is gone or is now occupied by another restaurant or business, as is the case with several Bearden buildings, but the sentimentality remains.

And as old restaurants close, new ones open, and the cycle continues. In the West Hills area of Kingston Pike, a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen fried chicken restaurant and Hawaiian Bros. Island Grill are soon to open.

The Popeyes will be at 7355 Kingston Pike in a former parking area, while the Hawaiian Bros. restaurant will be at 6903 Kingston Pike, where one of the earliest Arby’s in the country once was before the building was razed. A new Arby’s had been built several years ago immediately west of there…
