MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A Montgomery man has been sentenced on multiple federal charges connected to a deadly 2025 shooting at a gas station, according to the Department of Justice.
A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Rodriques Javaun Humphrey, 20, to 40 years in prison. Humphrey pleaded guilty in August 2025 to illegally possessing a machinegun, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The shooting happened Jan. 7, 2025, at the Chevron gas station on Zelda Road. The victim, 24-year-old Rodriquez Harris, Jr., of Montgomery, was fatally shot multiple times while sitting in his vehicle.
According to federal authorities, officers with the Montgomery Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency were nearby when they heard gunshots exchanged between two vehicles at the gas station. As officers responded, they saw three people fleeing the scene.
