(FOX40.COM) — Search and rescue teams assisted an injured skier who went out of bounds near Heavenly Resort during a major winter storm.
According to Tahoe Search and Rescue, at about 12:30 p.m. last Thursday the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance involving a skier injured below the resort’s gondola line. The skier was located roughly 650 vertical feet downhill and about one mile from the gondola base.
The rescue teams evaluated conditions before responding, citing high avalanche danger and unmanaged terrain outside resort boundaries amid an ongoing storm.
Officials said two skiers rode the gondola on a single round trip to visually locate the subjects, while other team members transported rescue equipment to a staging area at Van Sickle State Park…
