The Museum of Appalachia will honor Sam and Ann Furrow at its 5th annual “Heroes of Southern Appalachia” award ceremony on Friday, Feb. 27. Former Tennessee Gov. and U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander will present the award.
With support from Gary and Sandy Wade with Jenny and Randy Boyd, “Heroes of Southern Appalachia” recognizes individuals of Southern Appalachian heritage who exemplify perseverance, fortitude, self-reliance, and service, a news release said. Tickets for the event are already sold out, according to a museum official.
“Sam and Ann Furrow built their lives through hard work, self-reliance, and a genuine commitment to others,” museum board chairman Gary Wade said in the release. “Their success was earned, and their generosity has always been intentional. They represent exactly the kind of character and service the Heroes of Southern Appalachia award was created to recognize.”…
