$500 prize on the line as ‘Mount Paul’ snow pile stubbornly sticks around in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — In early February, Warehouse Block in Lexington began a competition to answer a puzzling question, with a huge prize for the winner: how long does it take for a parking lot snow mound to completely melt?

The competition began Feb. 6 to see how long a parking lot snow mound, lovingly called “Mount Paul,” would take to melt. From then until Feb. 13, more than 400 comments have poured in with bold predictions about the exact time and date Mount Paul will finally melt into memory.

Guesses ranged from the wildly optimistic Feb. 10 (sweet summer child) to the dramatically cautious April 16 (someone clearly doesn’t trust Kentucky weather). Whoever nails it—or gets closest without needing a meteorology degree—will win more than $500 worth of prizes from Warehouse Block businesses. Yes, that’s right. People are financially invested in a snow pile.

Now, about two and a half weeks later, Mount Paul stubbornly refuses to surrender, despite the above-freezing temperatures and with the help of a few extra centimeters of snow from earlier this week…
