East Coast buried in snow while Northeast Wisconsin stays quiet

(WLUK) — March is nearly here, but winter has been relatively quiet in Northeast Wisconsin, even as parts of the East Coast were buried by a major snowstorm earlier this week which that dropped more than a foot in many areas and pushed totals closer to 3 feet in a few spots. Providence, Rhode Island, measured 36 inches of snow from the week’s storm alone, which is the amount of snow Green Bay has accumulated since November.

Many in Northeast Wisconsin are sitting around 30 inches of snow for the season so far, which is slightly below what’s typical for late February. Manitowoc is on the lower end at 26.1 inches, while Sturgeon Bay is higher at 42.3 inches. Compared with normal snowfall to date, Green Bay is 4.6 inches below average, and Shawano is 5.2 inches shy. Appleton is 1.4 inches below normal, Manitowoc is 2.8 inches below, Marinette is 0.1 inches below, and Sturgeon Bay is 1.2 inches below.

Even with the recent lull, March and April can still bring snow. Generally, Northeast Wisconsin sees about 40 to 50 inches in total for the entire winter season. Green Bay’s seasonal normal at 55.6 inches, Shawano near 47.9 inches and Appleton at 49.4 inches. Northeast Wisconsin would need to add roughly another foot and a half of snow in the remaining winter window to meet seasonal average…
