Family thanks strangers for helping save missing special needs man in Arlington

A 25-year-old Arlington man with special needs is back home safe and recovering after spending nearly 12 hours lost overnight in the dense woods at River Legacy Park.

His family says two strangers and a thermal drone are the reason he’s alive.

Jacob Bates, who has autism, was riding bikes with his father Monday evening when the two became separated on the park’s extensive trail system. As the sun set, his father searched for him, but couldn’t find him, prompting a large response from Arlington police…
