Woman arrested in connection to targeting, stealing from ‘storm-ready’ homes in Englewood

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Charlotte County deputies are investigating over a dozen burglaries in Englewood, where homes with hurricane shutters have become targets for thieves, indicating that no one is home.

“We need those shutters because they really help protect us and keep us safe,” said Englewood resident Gary Winthorp. “But, you know, if the criminals are tearing them down, you know, now we’re prone to getting hurt by them.”

Deputies report that the same suspects have been accused of prying open garages and back doors, stealing jewelry and other valuables since August. An affidavit said a confidential informant identified Shyla Robinett and another man as the reported burglars…
