INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) – Aubree’s law, formally known as Senate Enrolled Act 9 (SEA 9), has passed through the legislature and is now awaiting being signed into law by the governor.
Aubree Zent was 2-years-old when she was murdered alongside her mom, 26-year-old Sarah Zent, and her siblings, five-year-old Carter Zent and three-year-old Ashton Zent, at a Fort Wayne home on 2904 Gay St. in June 2021.
Aubree’s Grandma Jen and Aubree’s Aunt, Kayley Richardson, were finally ready to face the two-year-old’s murderer after the trial had finished in May 2022. When the time came for him to hear all the deeply personal statements, he refused to re-enter the courtroom.
At the time, Indiana did not have any legislation requiring convicted criminals to be present in the courtroom for impact statements if they did not wish to do so…
