JetZero to break ground in Greensboro in June with a sky-high goal

As JetZero prepares to start building its futuristic jet factory in Greensboro, CEO Tom O’Leary said hiring is ramping up in what he believes will be a transformative endeavor for the company and North Carolina.

O’Leary envisions the Long Beach, California-based company establishing its “global hub” with nearly 15,000 employees at Piedmont Triad International Airport. It’s already home to another aviation startup, Boom Supersonic, and long-established airport tenants such as Honda Aircraft Co. and Haeco Americas, an aircraft maintenance company.

A military aircraft repair company, U.K.-based Marshall USA has delayed the opening of its new facility at the airport. O’Leary said JetZero plans to break ground in June for its factory encompassing more than 600 acres owned by the airport in northwestern Greensboro.

As aviation supply chain companies migrate to the Triad region, the area “has the potential to be the global aerospace hub in the future,” O’Leary told students at Elon University’s business school last week. “You can’t tell me a good reason why that can’t happen. I think we have a better shot of doing that here on fresh ground with new ideas than they do of just clinging to a past in Seattle or in Toulouse.’’…
