‘Shocking’ discoveries removed from Owosso man’s home who was planning a mass shooting

OWOSSO, Mich. (WLNS) — For three days in June 2024, Owosso police officers were dispatched to a neighborhood in the city for calls of ‘shots fired.’ The calls were unusual for the community of 15,000 people, Kevin Lenkart, the city’s Director of Public Safety, told 6 News Investigates.

But officers had no idea those calls would uncover a more “shocking” crime. Federal and local authorities report Mack Davis, then 21, fired his sawed-off Rossi rifle into his neighbors’ cars on June 17, 2024, under the cover of a raging thunderstorm rolling through the area that early morning.

A search warrant served on Davis’ home that morning would uncover evidence that Davis was preparing to carry out a mass shooting.

“He was trying to build up the will and to actually go out and commit the crimes,” Lenkart said the FBI told him of Davis’ early morning shootings. “It is my belief and our belief that, you know, we stopped this within one or two days of doing it.”
