Brandon Jacobs, the Harvey man accused of ordering an Uber and stabbing his rideshare driver to death with the knife he’d just bought for that very purpose, was found not guilty by reason of insanity following a judge trial in Jefferson Parish Wednesday afternoon.
Jacobs, 33, had been charged with second-degree murder in the Dec. 8, 2022, death of 54-year-old Yolanda Dillion. But doctors who testified for both the prosecution and the defense told the court that Jacobs was in the throes of severe mental illness when he killed Dillion.
“I believe at the time of this homicide, Mr. Jacobs was experiencing active psychosis,” said Dr. Sarah Deland, a forensic psychiatrist who testified for the defense. “He was suffering under delusions that rendered him unable to distinguish right from wrong.”
After handing down his ruling, Judge Lee Faulkner of the 24th Judicial District Court set a March 18 dangerousness hearing. Jacobs’ attorney, Miles Swanson, said a sanity commission will assess the threat that Jacobs poses to himself and others and determine what type of treatment he needs…
