Hardware store staff helps save mom in Cahokia Heights hostage case

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — On Monday morning, a terrified young man ran across the street from his apartment to Thrifty Hardware & Home Center, begging for help.

What he revealed next left police stunned: he and his mother had been held hostage, where they were beaten repeatedly, threatened with a gun, and trapped with no way to call for help for days.
