PARKVILLE, MD – A Baltimore woman who jokingly refers to herself as “Maryland Lottery royalty” officially ascended to the throne this week after claiming a massive $100,000 top prize.

The winner, a retired government employee currently working as a part-time contractor, visited Lottery headquarters on Feb. 23 to claim her windfall from a $10 Red 5’s Doubler ticket. While she usually savors the ritual of scratching her tickets slowly, a stroke of luck—and a bit of a rush—led to the life-changing discovery.

A Royal Rush

The winning moment happened at the Carroll Motor Fuels station on Cleanleigh Drive in Parkville. With her husband waiting in the car outside, the winner didn’t have her usual leisure time to play.

“I had to hurry,” she told Lottery officials. Skipping the games themselves, she scratched only the “prize check” area and scanned the ticket at the vending machine. When the screen prompted her to take the ticket to the Lottery office, she sought a second opinion from the store clerk…
