Comedian with Alabama roots announces new Netflix special recorded in state

A comedian whose worldview was shaped by a childhood in north Alabama has announced that Netflix will release his first full-length special in March.

Derrick Stroup is a native of West Virginia whose family moved to Harvest, near Huntsville, when he was nine. His youth has provided him with abundant material on topics such as Southern cuisine (he has referred to Waffle House as “Southern hibachi”) and adolescent partying in the days before there was Uber to get you home.
