Montgomery flags to be lowered to half-staff in police officer’s memory

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed has ordered all City of Montgomery flags to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Montgomery Police Department Corporal David M. Hathcock.

As Action 8 News has reported, Hathcock died Sunday, February 22, from injuries he suffered in an on-duty wreck on November 9, 2025. He had served for 20 years.

“Corporal David Hathcock represented the very best of Montgomery,” Mayor Reed said in a statement. “For two decades, he put on the uniform with courage and compassion, serving our residents with honor. His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks our officers take every day to keep our city safe. Tamika and I are praying for Katie, his daughters, and the entire Hathcock family during this incredibly difficult time. Montgomery stands with you.”
