Richmond artist Dennis Winston on preserving Black history through art

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Richmond artist and educator Dennis Winston has spent decades using his work to document and share the Black experience — and he says that history is now at risk.

Winston maintains a studio inside Ginter Park United Methodist Church, where he creates pieces centered on Black history, activism, families, and life.

“My art is based in African-American experience. But when I do my art, I want anyone who looks at it to relate to it. Many of the things that I am putting in my work has to do with things that all humans are involved in,” Winston said…
