Owners of 4 hotels who owed Onondaga County over $370,000 in room taxes take plea, avoid jail

Syracuse, N.Y. ― The owner of a hotel group pleaded guilty to criminal charges Thursday for avoiding hundreds of thousands of dollars in room occupancy taxes and late fees.

The Patel Group, owned by Satish, Kayur and Damyanti Patel, owed the county over $373,000 in unpaid taxes and interest from 2023 and 2024 for four hotels the family operated across Onondaga County, prosecutor Tim Frateschi said.

On Thursday, Satish Patel pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of attempted fourth-degree grand larceny and paid back $373,451.24, the full amount owed, Frateschi said…
