Authorities Prepare to Return Nancy Guthrie’s Home as Search Nears One Month Mark
TUCSON, AZ – Law enforcement officials are reportedly preparing to return the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie to her family, as the search for the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie approaches its fourth week. Federal agents were observed at the residence on Wednesday, which has been a focal point of the investigation since Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st.
Sources close to the investigation have indicated that officials no longer deem it necessary to maintain the home as a sealed crime scene or restrict family access. The recent activity at the property was reportedly in preparation for its handover to the family.
Since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, more than 23,000 calls have been made to the FBI tip line. A significant surge in tips, approximately 750 within the first 12 hours, followed Savannah Guthrie’s emotional Instagram video on Tuesday, where she offered a $1 million reward for her mother’s safe return.
Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Catalina Foothills home, located just outside Tucson, in the early hours of February 1st. Authorities believe her disappearance was an abduction or kidnapping. Her reliance on daily medication has raised serious concerns, with officials warning of potentially “fatal” consequences if she remains without it.
While no suspects have been publicly identified, authorities released video on February 10th showing a masked, armed individual tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera on the morning she disappeared. Recent reports from ABC News and CNN have suggested the suspected kidnapper may have visited the home on a prior occasion; however, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has refuted this, stating that the images lack date or time stamps, making any such claims “purely speculative.”
Aldine Meister, a neighbor, reported seeing a “suspicious young man” in the area two weeks before the abduction, noting that “he just didn’t fit.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have confirmed they are actively pursuing “all viable leads.” DNA evidence has been collected from the home’s yard and other search locations and submitted for forensic analysis, though results have yet to be released.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Savannah Guthrie expressed the family’s anguish, stating, “Every hour and minute and second and every long night has been agony. We need to know where she is.
We need her to come home.” Despite the difficult circumstances, the visibly emotional anchor affirmed her family’s continued belief in a miracle for her beloved mother’s return.
