Mild February allows for Des Moines metro construction catch-up

DES MOINES, Iowa — While it may feel like a distant memory, temperatures were in the 60s a week ago, giving construction crews the chance to get ahead on some projects around the metro.

Rain over the summer caused some major construction endeavors to be pushed back, so milder winter conditions are a welcome sight to Iowa Department of Transportation officials.

High demand for ice time in central Iowa for winter sports

The largest ongoing project is the work on the West Mixmaster and its surrounding exits and on-ramps, specifically those for University and Hickman. The onramp from University to I-80/35 and exit from I-80/35 to Hickman remain closed.

Some of that work was completed last week, which could lead to an early reopening of those on and off ramps…
