Woman accused of striking JPSO deputy had 11 different drugs in system, records show

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The woman accused of striking and killing a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy late last month had 11 different drugs in her system at the time of the crash, according to Orleans Parish court records.

Erica Smith-Katsanis, 53, was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on a count of vehicular homicide on Wednesday (Feb. 25).

At a Thursday (Feb. 26) bond hearing, Magistrate Commissioner Jay Daniels set Smith-Katsanis’ bond at $200,000. He also prohibited her from driving.

Police say Smith-Katsanis had 11 different drugs in her system at the time of a fatal traffic crash that killed JPSO motorcycle deputy Christopher Ohlmeyer. They include amphetamines, anti-depressants and benzodiazepines…
