After Nearly 50 Years, This New Illinois Train Route Will Connect Chicago to the Quad Cities for the First Time

Residents of Illinois have been advocating for a passenger rail line connecting Chicago to Moline.

For the past 20 years, politicians have been working to restore this service, which has been unavailable since 1978 when the Quad Cities Rocket ceased operations on the Rock Island Railroad.

The new Illinois train route will connect Chicago to the Quad Cities

Rock Island, named after one of the Quad Cities, chose not to transfer its passenger operations to Amtrak when it was established in 1971. However, according to NBC Chicago, a $450 million provision is included in the $1.5 billion, 1,000-page transit bill, which could be used to bring back passenger trains.
