ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s the heart of one of Albuquerque’s most popular farmers market, but could the city’s main downtown park be a home for a lot more activity? One organization is overseeing a new list of ideas to give that park a facelift. “To feel like a place when you drive through, that it feels vibrant and it feels alive, with lots of community and lots of engagement,” said Shawna Brown, Exec. Dir., DowntownABQ Mainstreet Initiative.
That’s the hope for downtown Albuquerque’s Robinson Park, now nearly a year into an effort to rehab the space well known for hosting the seasonal “Downtown Growers Market.” “Last year, DowntownABQ Maintstreet began hosting community events and giving out digital and in-person surveys to hear what upgrades to the park the community wanted to see,” said Brown.
Brown said that after sharing three different re-design ideas in a public survey, nearly 300 results were collected showing people want new lighting, bike racks, electric bike charging stations, and more at the city’s second-oldest park. “Temporary or more permanent restroom facilities. I think the thing folks have to keep in mind is just the maintenance of that. That takes staff power and a lot of city backing to make sure things like that can happen,” said Brown…
