Fiscal emergency expected
BARBERTON — At a special meeting Feb. 19, the Barberton City Schools Board of Education approved legislation that is anticipated to result in the district being declared by the state to be in fiscal emergency.
The resolution, required by law to be submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) following the district’s projected $11 million budget deficit by Fiscal Year (FY) 2028, states that the board “cannot develop a sufficient written plan to address projected FY 2027 and FY 2028 deficits.”
