LAPD officer collecting disability leave arrested after being caught skydiving

The Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday arrested one of its own officers for insurance fraud after the officer recreationally jumped out of airplanes even as he claimed he was too injured to work, prosecutors alleged.

According to the L.A. County district attorney’s office, 43-year-old Christopher Brandon Carnahan went skydiving several times in Lake Elsinore and worked out at a fitness center while also collecting disability benefits. He is accused of exaggerating his on-duty work injury, and has been charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud.

Carnahan, an 18-year department veteran, is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is expected to appear at his arraignment at a later date, prosecutors said. If convicted of his charges, he faces up to six years in county jail…
