PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Construction is expected to begin next year after the Portage Public Schools Board of Education this week approved a $2 million purchase of land to build a new Angling Road Elementary.
School officials say the current property isn’t large enough to support the open-concept design the district has used for its new elementary schools. The 14.79-acre property at 5201 Angling Road is just across the street from the current school building.
After an initial $175 million bond was passed in 2020 to fund a multi-year plan to rebuild five elementary schools and renovate a sixth, voters approved an additional $132.4 million bond in 2025 to fund construction for three of the six schools.
