A Tennessee-based nonprofit that provides skills training for people with mental and physical handicaps is under investigation by the state after a Tennessee Comptroller’s Office report linked financial malfeasance to the director.
The report, published Feb. 26, does not name the director, but details how thousands of dollars were allegedly funneled out of the Pikeville-based nonprofit S.T.A.R.S., Inc. in the form of bonuses, not approved by the board, gifts and bogus contract agreements.
