Union Pacific rebuilding Lincoln railroad bridge destroyed by unattended campfire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Union Pacific crews were out on Thursday rebuilding a nearly century-old railroad bridge that caught fire and collapsed in west Lincoln earlier this week.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue said an unattended campfire got out of control on Monday around 3:45 a.m. and set ablaze the railroad bridge over Salt Creek by Westgate and Sun Valley boulevards, near Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The burning bridge eventually collapsed just before 5:30 a.m. It continued to burn itself out throughout the day…
