South Texas temperatures are set to drop on Friday. Here’s what you can expect.

Thursday was one of the hottest February days San Antonio has experienced in recent memory. Afternoon temps topped out at 95 degrees in the Alamo City, breaking the daily heat record for Feb. 26 of 91 degrees, which had stood for over seven decades. It was also the first time San Antonio had hit 90 degrees in February since Feb. 14, 2014.

Thankfully, temperatures will be a bit lower on Friday, thanks to a weak cold front that pushed through the region Thursday afternoon. However, you won’t need to break out a jacket, as peak daytime temperatures are still expected to be around 15 degrees above average for late February.

Friday’s forecast

A comfortable morning is expected across San Antonio as predawn temperatures hover in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Patchy dense fog is possible, but mainly for areas south and east of San Antonio like Pleasanton, Floresville and Falls City.

Temperatures will rise steadily throughout the day, but not nearly as quickly as we saw them rise on Thursday. San Antonio temps will rise into the 70s after 9 a.m., likely staying there through the late morning. We’ll hit the 80-degree mark just after noon, before reaching a maximum temperature of around 85 degrees.

Bright sunshine is expected throughout the day, and the dry air still in place will spoil any chance of rainfall. Winds will also weaken to around 5 mph, resulting in a much lower wildfire weather threat…
