Reno man convicted in 2021 armed standoff, faces up to 16 years at sentencing

A Reno man who engaged in an armed standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies has been convicted on several felony charges.

Thomas Balboni Jr., 45, was found guilty of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a silencer, and resisting, obstructing, or delaying public officers with use of a firearm following a tense 2021 confrontation involving Reno Police, Sparks Police, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Balboni is a Tier III sex offender who had been out of compliance with registration requirements since 2019. In July 2021, authorities received a Secret Witness tip about his whereabouts.
