Company withdraws AI data center from Spartanburg County consideration

SPARTNABURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – After months of detailed engagement with county officials and community stakeholders, TigerDC announced on Friday that it is formally withdrawing Project Spero from consideration in Spartanburg County and will pursue alternative sites for the investment.

The decision comes after Spartanburg County Councilmembers voted not to offer a tax incentive to Project Spero, a multibillion-dollar data center proposal that drew weeks of strong public opposition.

Extensive Efforts to Address Community Concerns

Following the initial approval vote in Nov. 2025, TigerDC’s team said it worked extensively to address every technical question raised about the proposed data center facility. The company provided detailed documentation and public clarification about Project Spero’s design specifications.
