York Suburban hits pause on schools plan after township denial

York Suburban’s elected school board hit pause on a grade realignment plan, part of a larger ripple effect from Springettsbury Township’s driveway denial.

The realignment plan, which was announced earlier this month, would shuffle the district’s third graders to Indian Rock Elementary, and the fourth and fifth graders would then attend East York Elementary. This would have started in the 2026-2027 school year if it had been approved.

This is also meant to be a temporary solution while the district continues to push to get an intermediate school. The $120 million project hit a stumbling block when Springettsbury Township supervisors denied the district’s driveway proposal onto Sundale Drive. The supervisors’ denial stemmed from concerns about buses turning into the driveway when cars are parked along the adjacent street. In order to approve the plan, the township would have had to adopt a new ordinance to restrict vehicle parking in that area, which the board decided not to do…
