Mobile DA blasts judge presiding over murder case after Not Guilty verdict

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood penned a scathing public indictment of a judge Thursday night, accusing him in a social media post of mishandling a murder trial that resulted in a not guilty verdict. LaQuonte McCants, Darrin Miller and Darrion Johnson were accused of murdering 62-year-old Martha McGinsey in a 2020 retaliation shooting on Roderick Road in Mobile. The trio was tried at the same time, and a jury found them not guilty this week.

“These cases, number one, you can argue that some of these guys never should have even been charged,” said Miller’s defense attorney Jason Darley.

Two other suspects, Quinta McCants and Antonio McCants, were also charged with her murder. Antonio is set to go on trial in June. Quinta was found not guilty in December. A witness who testified in Quinta’s trial also took the stand this week, but defense attorney Chase Dearman recognized the witness had no deal with the state and his testimony could be self-incriminating…
