UTC’s Red O Kicked To The Curb As Housing Plan Cuts 91 Jobs

Red O, the upscale Mexican restaurant across from Westfield UTC in La Jolla, is shutting down its La Jolla location and laying off all 91 employees on April 20. The closure follows the property owner’s decision not to renew the lease as part of a planned redevelopment of The Plaza campus.

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed earlier this month lists Red O La Jolla, LCC as initiating a permanent closure that will affect 91 employees, with an expected shutdown date of April 20, according to a WARN filing tracked by WARNwise. Despite the filing, the company’s corporate site still lists the San Diego restaurant alongside locations in Newport Beach, Santa Monica and Westlake Village, per Red O.
