BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — February is American Heart Month, which is dedicated to raising awareness on heart disease, the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
WSAV spoke to Novant Health Interventional cardiologist, Dr. Donald Yakel, who talked about the importance of heart health.
“Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer in America. It’s still very prevalent. Heart attacks and heart deaths were declining from the mid-1960s to 2010-2011. They’ve now been going up for the last decade,” he said. “There are probably several reasons for that. So, it’s very important for people to constantly, every year, be reminded to do these things, re-look at their health. Make next year a little bit better.”…
