EBRSO arrests two in Essen Lane storage unit burglaries

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Armed Robbery and Burglary Division has arrested one person and is seeking the arrest of a second in connection with a series of storage unit burglaries at The Storage Center on Essen Lane.

Deputies responded to multiple reports of burglaries at the facility at 5121 Essen Lane between Feb. 20 and Feb. 23, 2026. A total of nine storage units were burglarized during that period.

Investigators determined that two burglaries occurred on Feb. 20 and seven additional burglaries occurred on Feb. 23. The suspects gained entry by cutting the locks and removing miscellaneous items from the units.

Arrests

Detectives identified Matthew Abrams as the individual responsible for the seven burglaries committed on Feb. 23. Abrams was arrested at his residence by the EBRSO Armed Robbery and Burglary Division.

Deputies recovered numerous items believed to have been stolen from the storage units during the arrest.

Investigators also identified Clifton Simmons as being involved in burglaries on both Feb. 20 and Feb. 23. Simmons was taken into custody by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges within their jurisdiction. EBRSO subsequently completed warrants related to the Essen Lane burglaries.
