Wintry mix likely Sunday into Monday as cold front hits St. Louis: Latest outlook

After a few warmer days later this week, a strong cold front will bring much colder air back to the region this weekend.

The St. Louis NWS said that confidence is high (80-90%) in wintry precipitation Sunday into Monday, though the location of highest impacts and exact precipitation types depend on the depth of the cold air and intensity of precipitation.

The warm prefrontal air may mitigate impacts outside of where the heaviest wintry precipitation falls. Currently, the St. Louis area is predicted to be in the transition zone. The likelihood of snow has dropped but there is still a chance for freezing rain.

“Confidence remains high (80%) that at least light (but impactful) wintry precipitation accumulations will occur Sunday evening through Monday morning, with best chances remaining along and north of I-70,” the St. Louis NWS said…
