Pollen watch

An earlier, warmer spring means one thing for allergy sufferers: more pollen , sooner. You may have seen the beginnings of the dusting we’re in for, and the pollen count is already pretty high.

It’s hard to predict what the pollen will look like, exactly, but experts say Georgia is expected to have some very high pollen counts.

March

  • Beginning of serious allergy season
  • Pollen counts jump from near zero to over 500 grains per cubic meter
  • Expect many days in the high/very high range for tree pollen

April

  • Typically, the worst month for pollen
  • Pollen counts can exceed 2,000 grains per cubic meter

May

  • Tree pollen gradually declines while grass pollen emerges
  • Grass pollen counts rise
  • Visible yellow dust may start to lessen

How to deal with the pollen

  • Keep windows closed on warm, windy days
  • Shower and change clothes after time outdoors
  • Check daily pollen counts at pollen.com
