(WKBN) — An Ohio bill currently under review would allow the “natural organic reduction of remains,” which, in simple terms, would legally let humans to be turned into compost after their death, offering another option besides cremation and traditional burial.
Senate Bill 323 was introduced by Senator Louis W. Blessing III in November and is currently in review by a Senate Committee with another meeting set for next week. “Reduction” describes the process of converting human remains into soil by a licensed facility.
“Very simply, it’s basically composting of the human body,” Blessing said. “For those of you who’ve just done composting generally with stuff from your kitchen, it’s the same concept. The body is just broken down over the course of a month to a month and a half, and is transformed, basically, into a bag of dirt.”…
