Thelma Boltin and the voices of old Florida

Jason Futch [email protected] Thelma Boltin carried the spirit of old Florida, sharing with people from near and far the folk stories from the Suwannee River to the tale of the Devil’s Millhopper in Gainesville. Not only was she a storyteller, but Boltin was also demonstrating dance techniques and teaching traditional crafts. Born in Beaufort, S.C., in 1902, Boltin moved to Gainesville with her family when she was five. After graduating from Gainesville High School, she moved to Boston, Mass., where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Emerson College, studying English, drama and speech.
